Greetings Prospective 2010 LJWC Faculty Member:
We are happy to announce that this year\'s La Jolla Writers Conference will be held at the lovely Paradise Point Resort & Spa from November 5-7, 2010.
For those of you that are new to our faculty this year, please allow me the opportunity to give you some background.
With a small group of volunteer advisors and 10 months of planning, Conference Founder Antoinette Kuritz launched the inaugural La Jolla Writers Conference in October of 2001. Award-winning author, Catherine Ryan Hyde, of the book-turned-movie PAY IT FORWARD, agreed to be the first keynote speaker.
As misfortune would have it, the inaguaral LJWC launched one month after 9/11. Understandably, many of the registered attendees withdrew, preferring not to travel, cutting the attendance by more than two-thirds. Antoinette and her advisors decided that if even a single person was willing to attend, the LJWC would go on. With Hyde’s permission, the conference adopted “Pay it Forward” as its theme. As a result, from day one, every single faculty member, staff member, and keynote speaker has volunteered their time and expertise to teach at the conference. From the agents to the NY Times bestselling keynote speakers to the staff that coordinates the conference, everyone volunteers their time, including us.
We look forward to the opportunity to have you join in this wonderful experience.
Please take the time to fill out the below questionnaire in its entirety. It has specifically been created to be as time-efficient as possible while comprehensively providing us with all the information we need to make your participation as enjoyable as possible. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Best, Jared Kuritz Director La Jolla Writers Conference jkuritz@strategiespr.com 858-467-1978

Our conference offers two types of classes: lecture sessions run for 50 minutes and workshops run for 110 minutes. Lecture classes are intended for you to teach the students about a particular topic and ideally allow for brief Q & A at the end. Workshop classes are intended to be interactive wherein students are often encourgaged to bring samples of their writing to class. Workshops can be designed to cover a specific topic (i.e. character development, voice, plotting, outlining, etc.) or be used as blanket group read & critiques that can be genre specific. As group read & critiques are the most popular clasees, nearly every faculty member will be assigned to facilitate at least one group read & critique commensurate with your area(s) of expertise. If you have taught for us in previous years, in order to provide new curriculum, please provide us with at least one new lecture class and one new workshop class.

If you choose to participate, several weeks before the conference, you will be sent a 12-page, double-spaced submission with one-page synopsis, for each private read for which you are chosen as a reader. At the conference, you will be assigned a specific 20-minute meeting time to review the submission with the author and recieve $45 for each review you perform.
